This listing is for a beautiful giclee print of this photograph of the sculpture of the Cihuateotl.

According to Mexica mythology, the Cihuateotl was a woman who died during childbirth, and as a result, became a spirit that haunted and tormented people. However, the Cihuateotl was also revered as a protector of women in labor and was thought to provide them with strength and guidance during childbirth.

The Cihuateotl was often associated with the goddess of fertility and childbirth, Xochiquetzal, and was sometimes depicted wearing her symbol, the flower of life. In some depictions, the Cihuateotl was shown with skeletal features, which further emphasized her association with death.

Overall, the Cihuateotl played an important role in Mexica culture as a symbol of both life and death, and her image and legend continue to be celebrated in modern-day Mexico during the Day of the Dead festival.
